"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil...

musing icon

...is for good men to do nothing."

Evil has found its way in. Like a great lurking beast, searching for new prey. This evil is Spam. More horrible than any virus; this is usually harmless in small quantities, but if it metastasizes it can, and will kill.

So whoever the jackass is that probed my domain with their filthy advertisement is going to end up in jail someday. If they're lucky. They'd best stay hidden, as I think unless something changes the tide of this war soon we will see these spammers quickly lose their mobility.

Close, very close.

Very close to launching now; Most, if not all, bugs in Opera and IE5.5 have been remedied, and the Art section is all but complete.

I still have some work to do on the Articles/Reviews section, but that will be minimal I hope.
All the site really needs is content!

Peter Pan

If you haven't seen Peter Pan yet, you might want to check it out, before it checks out of the theaters.

It's a great production faithful to the original work by James Barrie.

Still not good, but not bad either.

I may of overreacted a bit. The Mozilla 1.6 problem was easily fixed with some Margins that should of been there before.

However, IE6 on my Win98 Machine is acted exactly like IE5.5. Go figure.
IE5.5 has this weirdness that interprets proportionate font sizes differently, and doesn't seem to understand display: inline. Errrgh!

Sick of the Browser War

musing icon

So, I'm feeling good about myself, the site's working great in Mozilla, it's working great in IE6, I even fixed the bugs caused by Opera, but along comes trouble.
Trouble Trouble, Toil in the Double.

I open up IE on a Windows 98 Machine to test the site out of curiosity; Low and behold, _crap!_ The Nav menu is screwed beyond recognition, the fonts are disproportionate, even the font colors in some text is wrong.
It's not just the CSS either; The table in the Articles section is mis-aligned.
What's going on here? I thought I had made a relatively fluid and well-working design! This is IE6 SP1! On my WinXP machine it looks flawless with the exact same damnflippingjokeofthang!

Well, okay, I can work that out. Then comes the kick to the balls when you're hobbling to stand up: Firefox 0.8 is released. Nav Menu is screwed again. Same story for Mozilla 1.6, which I should of downloaded long ago.

Buggy browsers are bad enough, but at least they should be consistent.

Hollywood... What?

japan icon

With all the fallout of the Tokyo Mumu acquisition by 4Kids Entertainment, and their planned localization and renaming: Hollywood Mew Mew, it's at least nice to see a petition using the uniquely effective snail mail instead of the usual pointless exersize of digital signatures.

Rightstuf:

"There has been a little confusion lately as to the release date for I'm Gonna Be An Angel DVD Vol. 2.

First slated to be released in early January, SynchPoint has had to push it back to March 30th due to unforeseen circumstances."

It was January, then Febuary, now March. They're aiming for 18 months after the release of Volume 1?

A good pre-order bonus is in order for Tenshi ni Narumon.

Windows XP SP2

PC Magazine Preview of Windows XP Service Pack 2

Finally some improvements on IE6, but it sounds like too little too late; Opera and the Mozilla variants have far surpassed IE6 not only in security, but in functionality, usability, and most of all customizability.

Mozilla's open source, so improvements and features are constant. With the added Extensions it's endless. Opera really listens to their customers, you may pay, but you receive too.
Contrastingly, Microsoft seems only to improve IE6 when they have to, and skinning is out until they apply the same to the whole Windows shell.

Anime News Network:

"FUNimation sent out an advisory today stating that due to unspecified legal considerations, Detective Conan is to be renamed "Case Closed".

Conan Edogawa is coming to the United States. He is the star of the mega-popular series known in Japan as Detective Conan. This series is so popular that after eight years of running and over 350 episodes, new episodes for the show are still being produced and broadcast. The series remains one of the top rated shows for every age demographic in Japan as well as other countries. We expect this series to enjoy the same success in the U.S. market.

Due to legal considerations, this highly anticipated series will be released in the United States as Case Closed. Working closely with our Japanese partners, Case Closed was chosen as the name best suited for the U.S. market.

Case Closed is scheduled to broadcast on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim beginning April 5, 2004. Fans everywhere will be able to tune in and watch Conan Edogawa in his North American debut. The www.caseclosed.com Website is under construction, but fans can stop by and view the Case Closed FAQ, submit questions and sign up for Case Closed email updates.

In addition the renaming the series, FUNimation will also be renaming most of the characters for a mass-market release. Similarly to the series name-change, FUNimation informs us that they "worked closely" with their Japanese partners to pick names that would be suitable for the show and more acceptable to western TV audienced. However, they confirmed for us that the DVD will have a subtitled track that would feature the characters' original Japanese names."

Notice how they use the word adaptation.
Luckily it won't affect the DVD release; FUNimation has been very good about that, even going a step further than the other U.S. licensees with releases like 'Fruits Basket'.
